Despite the record’s nostalgia ( “The Next Best American Record”, and “The greatest”) and complete heartache, ( “Fuck it I love you”, and “Califonia”) there is hope. She compares the relationship to Cinnamon, which is sweet but taken in excess can burn, hence the phrases, “if you hold me without hurting me, you’ll be the first whoever did”. On the flipside, she depicts an unhealthy relationship where abuse and drugs take place, “Cinnamon Girl”. On “Love song” the singer paints a smoldering picture of lovers in a car detailing the admiration for her lover. The songstress crafts a deeply personal record laced with passion and heartbreak. “How to disappear” discusses the imminently doomed love she has with men addicted to drugs. The album lyrically follows the twists and turns of Del Rey’s past, present, and even the future. Del Rey phases her words with a soft melodic voice asking “If he’s a serial killer, then what’s the worst that can happen to a girl who’s already hurt?” (“Happiness is a butterfly”) and comment’s on societies’ string of tragedies on “Norman fucking Rockwell”: “Your poetry’s bad and you blame the news”. It’s filled with endless images of sunsets, car rides, and overall beautiful poetry. Written exclusively by Del Rey and Jack Antonoff, the record is an hour-long.
